Catalonia.
Located on the north-est of the Iberian peninsula, Catalonia
is a privileged area thanks to the vvariety of its habitats.
From the Pyrenees to the seaside, through to arid regions
such as Lleida, it enjoys a very mild climate throughout the
year.
Historicaly, it has been the meeting place of many civilizations.
During the Middle Ages, Catalonia became a nation, with its
own culture and language, evolving from the Roman and Arab
influencies, who remained at the Iberian peninsule for centuries.
In the XVth century, it made an alliance with the Castilla
Crown, that would be denied later in the XVIII century, when
most of the specific rights the Catalan citizens had from
elder times were abolished.
Nowadays, Catalonia is not only a highly industrialized area
based mainly arround Barcelona and Tarragona, and a sought
after first class holiday destination with its sunny coast
line, its country side and the Pyrenees, but is also a place
of avant-garde to be counted both artistically and technologically.
Many Catalan artists are known worldwide such us Gaudí,
Dalí, Miró, Pau Casals, Josep Carreras, Montserrat
Caballé, Mercé Rodoreda, etc.
A few places not to be missed among many others when stayimg
in Catalonia are the
Delta de l'Ebre, the Serra
de Prades, the Vall
de Boi, the Cap
de Creus, and the Monestirs
Cistersencs. Additional information can be found in the
